Is there a secret connection between daddies and their little darlings..? Certainly there is. Daughters share a special rapport with their dads, the shining example being my lovely relation with my papa. My papa is my dude, my hero. He plays the most important role in my life on the counts of achieving academic success, sharing my awards and failures, dealing with people in authority (this includes being able to express anger comfortably), being able to accept challenges and also building trusting relationships with men. He is there with me, beside me in every stage of my life, holding my hands tightly assuring me he’ll never let it go...and I am the safest with papa around me. I love having him on the back seat of my ‘BAKRI’...yes, that’s what he calls my scooty.. L
In our typical Indian society, where everyone is keen to tag your look with someone similar, the question I often come across is “kis par gayi h beti?” and before my parents can answer this I reply proudly “papa par” without giving it a second thought. Papa is the first person I share my achievements with. He’s my friend, my philosopher, my guide, my saviour, my protector...he’s my superhero. When home, I spend most of my time with him, be it going to the daily market for vegetables or buying paint for our new house. One more thing that we enjoy together is IRRITATING MUMMY BY OUR ACTS. But that doesn’t means we love her any less, it’s all for sheer fun. I love dancing with him and he enjoys disturbing my sleep by his whole kind of antique stuffs like placing an ice cube above my net or applying his shaving cream all over my face only to ask whether the shirt he’s wearing is going perfectly with his pants or not.
With me staying away in a hostel he is the one I talk to whenever I want to be home without holidays and the reply always is “aa jao beta” unlike mumma who is always like “abhi na 1 mahine pehle aayi thi...”.Sometimes he tries to be strict, but all it takes is a teardrop here and a whine there and all discipline goes down the drain. If it had been a son, he’d tell him to shut up, but there’s something about a father and his little girl (that’s me off course) that won’t let it happen.
P.S. : He’s the one who’s been editing my articles since I have started writing, probably this being the 1st one which goes without his editing. Love you loads papa. Missing you. J L
